Porto Cesareo

Nell'arco della scintillante costa ovest della penisola salentina si inscrive il piccolo borgo di mare di Porto Cesareo, lontano solo qualche decina di chilometri dal capoluogo Lecce e dalla città bella di Gallipoli.

La riviera cesarina si caratterizza in prevalenza per le lunghe spiagge finissime bordate da dune ricoperte della tipica macchia mediterranea. A queste si alternano delle basse scogliere e qualche isolotto tra i quali risalta l'Isola Grande, altrimenti detta dei Conigli, che ospita alcuni esemplari vegetali rari. Vista la grande varietà di specie presente in zona si è ritenuto opportuno istituire la Riserva naturale regionale Palude del Conte e Duna Costiera con lo scopo di tutelare non solo i viventi ma anche le numerose torri d'avvistamento cinquecentesche disposte ad intervalli regolari lungo la costa.

Una linea simile è stata seguita nella creazione dell'omologa Area marina protetta. Per chi non è in possesso del brevetto di sub, si potranno apprezzare alcune meraviglie del mare nel Museo di biologia marina nella stessa Porto Cesareo.
